Early Spring Lunch
Posted on
Last weekend Cornwall was still very much in the grip of winter, but spring does appear to have since arrived… yesterday the sun was warm, the wind was light and the lanes were fragrant with the scent of flowers.. so a spin out for lunch with a riding buddy was in order.. it turned into an all day, slightly muddy, exploration of Penwith backroads, bridleways and tracks with lunch in the sunshine atop the granite cliffs of Gwennap Head. I wish I’d taken my bivy bag.. I’d probably still be there now. Next time.

beautiful day there Mike – and I think we are 3 weeks behind you. 100k of muddy lanes today for me. Love the feel of the photos – cheered me up.
ah, the difference a few degrees of latitude makes :-) glad you enjoyed, some spring weather is so badly needed after that winter. hope it arrives up there soon!
When you were using those stronglight rings were you using “middle” or “outer” rings in the outer position (large ring). I believe the way the chamfer on the chainrings / 110/58 spider line up it might be ideal to use a middle ring, but I’m pretty sure you used outer because of that pin? Did you just face the chamfer against the spider and bolt it together with the chainring nut sitting flat on the back of the chainring … and simply not worry about it (it’s not exactly how it’s machined to be installed)?
hey, honestly I cannot remember since I swapped those rings out for stainless ones a few years ago, although it seems likely I just decided to not worry about it. the surly stainless ring that replaced it is not countersunk on either face so the situation is the same. it’s absolutely fine.
